In December 2014, I watched Gabriel Medina usher in a new era for Brazilian surfing. Watching Gabriel win the world title was one of the proudest moments of my life – not only was he changing the game, he’d done it surfing my boards. It was also a turning point in my personal journey as a shaper.
After 35 years of dedication to the craft, the time had come to follow my dreams, and start my own surfboard company. In 2015, Cabianca Surfboards was born, and in 2016, we built our own factory in the heart of the Spanish Basque Country. Looking back in 2019, the past four years have been incredibly exciting… and challenging!
Building surfboards is second nature to me – building a surfboard company is a lot more complicated, and I couldn’t have done it alone. So, to everyone who has been part of the adventure, from my wife Kelli (who saves my ass on a daily basis), to Gabriel, our greatest ambassador and his family, Mikel Agote, my business partner, and you, our loyal customers – Obrigado!
